Riparian forest productivity decline initiated by streamflow diversion then amplified by atmospheric drought 40 years later

چکیده
Riparian trees and their annual growth rings can be used to reconstruct drought histories related streamflow. Because the death of individual reduces competition for survivors, however, tree-ring chronologies based only on surviving may underestimate impacts. This problem addressed by calculating productivity at stand scale account tree mortality establishment. In semi-arid Great Basin in western United States, we calculated riparian wood production from 1946 2016 along a stream where most flow has been removed diversion pipeline since 1961. The water table was found generally below root zone cottonwoods (Populus angustifolia P. × trichocarpa) pipeline-dewatered reach but within it reference reaches. To forest through time, separately combined measurements basal area increment with either changing aerial photos or census cross-dated living dead cottonwoods. Both approaches revealed declines dewatered relative adjacent reaches, decline accelerated 2000s. Tree-ring narrowing resulted divergence between one 5 years after diversion. However, did not diverge other until 40 later, when an unprecedented early 2000s atmospheric coupled cause extensive cottonwood mortality. We conclude that dendrochronological investigations response environmental stress should incorporate dynamics full impacts delayed decades.

Baryogenesis – 40 Years Later
The classical picture of GUT baryogenesis has been strongly modified by theoretical progress concerning two nonperturbative features of the standard model: the phase diagram of the electroweak theory, and baryon and lepton number changing sphaleron processes in the hightemperature symmetric phase of the standard model. We briefly review three viable models, electroweak baryogenesis, the Affleck...
متن کاملForest productivity decline caused by successional paludification of boreal soils.
Long-term forest productivity decline in boreal forests has been extensively studied in the last decades, yet its causes are still unclear. Soil conditions associated with soil organic matter accumulation are thought to be responsible for site productivity decline. The objectives of this study were to determine if paludification of boreal soils resulted in reduced forest productivity, and to id...
متن کاملInstitute for Mathematical Physics the Thirring Model 40 Years Later the Thirring Model 40 Years Later ?
Solutions to the Thirring model are constructed in the framework of algebraic quantum eld theory. It is shown that for all positive temperatures there are fermionic solutions only if the coupling constant is = q 2(2n + 1); n 2 N, otherwise solutions are anyons. Diierent anyons (which are uncountably many) live in orthogonal spaces, so the whole Hilbert space becomes non-separable and in each of...
متن کاملThe Confinement Problem: 40 Years Later
The confinement problem was first noted four decades ago. Since then, a huge amount of efforts have been spent on defining and mitigating the problem. The evolution of technologies from traditional operating systems to mobile and cloud computing brings about new security challenges. It is perhaps timely that we review the work that has been done. We discuss the foundational principles from clas...
متن کاملVisually Controlled Locomotion: 40 years Later
Gibson's article, "Visually Controlled Locomotion and Visual Orientation in Animals" (1958/this issue), is the leading statement of a nonrepresentational, information-based approach to visual control. The core ideas he introduced 40 years ago resurface, explicitly or implicitly, in much contemporary work on perception and action in humans, insects, robots, and autonomous agents. The purpose of ...
